ബാറ്റിംഗ് ശരാശരിയില്‍ ഡോണ്‍ ബ്രാഡ്മാന് പിന്നില്‍ രണ്ടാമതെത്താനും മത്സരത്തില്‍ സ്മിത്തിനായി. അതേസമയം ശ്രീലങ്കക്കെതിരായ പരമ്പരയില്‍ ടെസ്റ്റില്‍ 20-ാം സെഞ്ചുറിയും ആറാം ഇരട്ട സെഞ്ചുറിയും കോലി പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയിരുന്നു. സമകാലിക ക്രിക്കറ്റിലെ മികച്ച താരങ്ങളെന്ന് വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുന്ന കോലിയെയും സ്മിത്തിനെയും കുറിച്ച് പുതിയ ചര്‍ച്ചയ്കക്കാണ് വോണ്‍ തുടക്കമിട്ടത്.
