Muralee Thummarukudy

Chief of Disaster Risk Reduction in the UN Environment Programme
Muralee Thummarukudy (born August 10, 1964) is the Chief of Disaster Risk Reduction in the UN Environment Programme. An internationally renowned expert in disaster response, Muralee has been involved in post-disaster response and follow-up of almost all major disasters of the twenty-first century, including the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, Cyclone Nargis (Myanmar, 2008), Sichuan Earthquake (China, 2008), Haiti Earthquake (2010), Tohoku tsunami (2011) and floods in Thailand (2011).

Dr Kierstan Connors

GEMS Education – Professional Biography
Mrs. Kierstan Connors joined GEMS Education as founding Director of College Counseling for the flagship technology-focused GEMS Nations Academy Dubai four years ago and now serves a consolidated, centralized, international role as GEMS Corporate Head of (Vice President of) College & Career Counseling Worldwide – to develop GEMS global brand of excellence for University and Career Advising for over 250 schools with 8 different curricula and over 50,000 secondary students to place in post-secondary programs each year. Prior to GEMS, she has spent over 30 years as an international administrator, Professor, Academic Dean and consultant in Central America, the Middle East and Asia, with a five year role as Dean and Director of College Counseling in China with Ray Global Education and the Ministry of Education (SOEEC) based out of Shanghai. Dr. Connors brings over three decades of experience managing and advising international students, families and school staff through the complexities of the holistic college application process on a global scale, and is uniquely qualified to support international students, schools and advising teams in their efforts to gain admission to the most selective universities worldwide. Dr. Connors earned dual accelerated degrees from Stanford University and the Universidad de Panama, is a Master Teacher of Economics and English, and is completing a PhD in Economics and International Literacy, Culture, and Language Education Policy Studies from Indiana University.
