ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിന്റെ സെന്‍ട്രല്‍ ബാക്കായിരുന്നു ചാള്‍ട്ടന്‍. 35 മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് ആറ് ഗോളുകളാണ് ചാള്‍ട്ടന്‍ നേടിയത്. ലീഡ്‌സിനൊപ്പം 23 വര്‍ഷമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം കളിച്ചത്. 1952- 73 കാലയളവില്‍ 773 മത്സരം കളിച്ചു. വിരമിച്ച ശേഷം അയര്‍ലന്‍ഡ് ടീമിന്റെ പരിശീലകനാവുകയായിരുന്നു. 990 ലോകകപ്പില്‍ ടീമിനെ ക്വാര്‍ട്ടര്‍ ഫൈനലിലെത്തിച്ചു. മിഡില്‍സ്ബറോ, ഷെഫീല്‍ഡ് വെനസ്‌ഡേ, ന്യൂകാസില്‍ ക്ലബ്ബുകളേയും പരിശീലിപ്പിച്ചു.
പരിശീലകനായപ്പോള്‍ ഏറ്റവും കൂതല്‍ നേട്ടമുണ്ടായത് അയലന്‍ഡിനായിരിക്കും. 1990, 1994 ലോകകപ്പുകളിലും 1988 യൂറോ കപ്പിലും ടീം മികച്ച പ്രകടനം നടത്തിയത് ചാള്‍ട്ടന്റെ പരിശീലന മികവിന് തെളിവാണ്. 1996-ല്‍ അയര്‍ലന്‍ഡ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പൗരത്വം നല്‍കി ആദരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. നിരവധി പേരാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ആദരാഞ്ജലി അര്‍പ്പിച്ചത്. ചില ട്വീറ്റുകള്‍ വായിക്കാം....
