ടെസ്റ്റ് ക്യാപ്റ്റനായി റഹ്മത്ത് ഷായെയും ടി20 ടീം നായകനായി റഷീദ് ഖാനെയും തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2015ല്‍ മുഹമ്മദ് നബിക്ക് പകരമാണ് അസ്ഗര്‍ അഫ്ഗാന് ടീമിന്റെ നായകനായത്. ഇക്കാലത്താണ് അഫ്ഗാന് ക്രിക്കറ്റ് ടീം വിസ്‌മയനേട്ടങ്ങള്‍ കൈവരിച്ചത്. അസ്ഗറിന് കീഴില്‍ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാന് ഐസിസിയില്‍ പൂര്‍ണ അംഗത്വം ലഭിക്കുകയും അയര്‍ലന്‍ഡിനെതിരെ ആദ്യ ടെസ്റ്റ് ജയം സ്വന്തമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
